OUR FARM -
We had plenty of rain
this year, ending with too much in harvest season. Despite the wet
harvest, we managed to harvest a beautiful crop of Daikon Radish.
CROP
NEWS -
Some New Products -
Red Daikon Radish – beautiful purple-red sprouts.
-
limited quantity of Carrots, these can be sprouted like
alfalfa, about 8 to 10 days. They taste like new baby carrots from the
garden.
-
Redcap Lentils - Tiny lentils with a salmon interior,
light green speckled skin. Inexpensive.
-
New stock of Fenugreek, with a lower price.
·
Alfalfa, Lentils, and
Clover –
Fair to good crops of all
these. Prices should moderate.
- We’re out of stock on canola, small
garbanzos, black lentils, and trapper peas. We hope to have new
stock before too long.
We
have a new stock of speckled peas, and we are getting wonderful
reviews from growers. May replace Dwarf Grey Sugar Peas when grown in
soil
NEW RESEARCH on Broccoli sprouts.
Indications are that broccoli (and cabbage, kale, etc.) sprouts may be
useful for more than just cancer prevention. Research shows that
broccoli sprouts may help for cholesterol, heart disease, stroke,
stomach ulcer, and they may even help protect the retina. You can
find links to the research at our
seeds webpage .
Genetically modified alfalfa can now be legally fed to animals in
Canada, but seed growing or importation is still illegal.
Help keep it that way by writing the Minister
of Agriculture and letting him know that organic farmers do not
want their markets and livelihoods destroyed, and that you don’t want
alfalfa sprouts containing Roundup Ready GM genes.
For more information see our website at
http://www.sprouting.com/GMalfalfa.htm.
- if you're in the US contact your elected officials, ask for a
moratorium on approval of genetically modified crops, and mandatory
labeling of all genetically modified products.
You can write the minister of
agriculture or your MP without postage.
Tell him that you don’t want a GM alfalfa grown in Canada.
The address of the Federal Minister
of Agriculture is:
The Honourable Mr. Andy Mitchell
House of Commons
Parliament Buildings
Ottawa, ON K1A 0A6
You can fax him at 613 759 1081
