Winter scene, near our back door

|
-ON OUR FARM THIS
YEAR:
We’ve come through another dry year here, like most of Saskatchewan.
Most crops are short in quantity, but make up for it in great sprouting
quality.
We had a great Daikon radish crop, and moderate wheat yields. Our
alfalfa seed yields weren’t good, but fortunately some other
Saskatchewan organic producers have good crops and supplies should be
adequate. We harvested a small crop of hulless oats.
It was too dry in the spring to plant some of the specialty small seeded
items like cress, broccoli raab, mustard, and alfalfa.
Commercial Sprouter
News
We have good quality but small stocks of Basil, Beet, Onions, Green
Grams, Black Lentils, and Buckwheat.
Between our crop and other Saskatchewan farmers, we’ll be able to
continue to supply productive Spring Wheat for wheatgrass.
Peas
– We have good supplies of green and yellow peas for short sprouts. We
also have fair supplies of small green peas for leafy shoots (like
Majorette). Marrowfat peas for short sprouts are out, but will back in
stock within about 3 weeks. We have large amounts of speckled peas for
tall shoot production.
NEW ITEMS,
OR BACK IN STOCK
·
We have limited quantities of Chicory and Endive, for trial.
These might be good as a small part of a mix, or soil grown for greens.
·
We also have limited Swiss Chard, which grows a nice green, with
light pink stems, in soil.
·
A small amount of Coriander and Caraway will be available later
this winter, for those wanting to experiment with flavour.
·
Fennel –
We have very high germination fennel, best ever.
·
Dwarf Gray Sugar Peas
– our growers had trouble with drought, leaving us with a small crop,
which isn’t cleaned yet. Let us know if you want to be notified of
availability.
·
Red Cabbage
– we’ve just run out of a very nice brilliant red stock, but we have
more of the same on order. If you want larger quantities or regular
supplies let us know right away.
·
We have no Fenugreek, Brown Mustard, Kamut, Crimson Lentils, or
Popcorn at present, but samples are on the way and we should have
most later this winter.
